SUB: LEGAL NOTICE UNDER SECTION 138 OF THE NEGOTIABLE INSTRUMENTS ACT, 1881

Dear Sir/Madam,

Under instructions from my client, [Your Name], I hereby serve upon you the following Legal Notice:

1. That towards the discharge of your legitimate financial liability towards my client, you had issued a Cheque bearing number [Cheque Num] dated [Date] for a sum of Rs. [Amount]/- drawn on [Bank Name].
2. That my client presented the said cheque for encashment through their bankers, but to the utter shock of my client, the same was returned unpaid with the bank memo remark "Funds Insufficient".
3. That your act clearly shows that you issued the cheque with a malafide intention to cheat and defraud my client, making you liable for prosecution under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.

I therefore, through this notice, call upon you to make the payment of the said amount of Rs. [Amount]/- to my client within 15 days of the receipt of this notice, failing which my client will be constrained to initiate appropriate legal proceedings (civil and criminal) against you in a court of competent jurisdiction in Uttar Pradesh entirely at your risk, cost, and responsibility.
